Keeping on with our trip to Sarasota FL, I would like to now introduce you to a little amazing Amish restaurant in Sarasota. Its name is Der Dutchman. its located at 3713 Bahia Vista St, Sarasota, FL 34232. its open all days but Sunday and select holidays. for those hours please visit their website at http://www.dhgroup.com/restaurants/der-dutchman-sarasota-fl.
When we arrived it was a Saturday around 3pm and i will say we came just in time. As you arrive you are welcomed to this beautiful building that reminds you of a huge farm home in Pennsylvania. you enter into the lobby and are overcome with the amazing smells from the restaurant and the in house bakery. I tell you what if you weren't hungry when you arrived you sure are now. We were welcomed by some very nice hostess that quickly showed us to our table.
Walking into the restaurant you see that this was designed to take you out of Florida and into the Amish country side. The building inside and out was in great condition and kept very clean. So as we arrived to our table we are quickly welcomed by our server and was offered some fresh home made white and wheat dinner rolls with both apple butter and peanut butter spread. i will tell you this i was born in the central part of Pennsylvania and sitting down i felt like i was back there again.
Before our arrival we already did research on the menu for the restaurant and pre decided so no need for us to look at the menus. but they do have other menu options other than their buffet. I will say that this buffet was hot and ready the entire time we were there. On it mashed potatoes, creamed corn, ham, turkey, stuffing, green beans, fried chicken, cobbler, and the list goes on and on. with a mix of hot and cold food no person could go hungry with their dinner. it took me down after only 2 plates. but i did not leave hungry.
upon our exit from the location we stopped by the gift shop that had things that remind of you the Amish countryside, and a large selection of baked goods, drinks, snacks, meats, cheeses and even coffee. i will say i could easily go broke in their gift shop.
Overall recap of the restaurant is that its is big with tons of seating and parking. Huge selection of hot and ready food. Polite and quick wait staff. and for the cost you definitely get your dollars worth. I definitely have plans to return and rate this a 5/5 stars, Highly recommending this to anyone out in this area that loves good home style country cooking.
